A Foolproof Overnight Bag
24 hours in Washington
I had a quick trip down to DC this weekend. I do have to say that despite my travel gripes with some of my other companions on the train, and despite the superiority of European transit, there is something so joyful about being able to just take the train. Amtrak is vastly more comfortable than flying and it’s great to be able to walk onto the train from the middle of the city and walk out at the other end of your journey in the middle of the city. 10/10 recommend.
As it was such a quick turnaround, I went with the very basics. Here’s what I packed in my Cuyana tote…
My favorite pajamas: Matching pajamas are a necessity in my life that I will not do without. They make me feel infinitely more polished and put-together, even when asleep. My favorites are currently on sale, so I’m personally buying another pair.
My Cadence capsules and small Parcel: I don’t travel without these! It’s the easiest way to bring everything I need neatly corralled. These truly DO NOT leak, which is great, because they were holding my favorite shampoo and conditioner and I am running out! (My refills are arriving soon.) You can get 15% off Cadence with FEWERANDBETTER15.
AERIN honeysuckle travel spray: This was a recent gift from the AERIN team and I am OBSESSED. It perfectly captures the ephemeral nature of honeysuckle. The travel spray now lives in my bag!
My Molly Moorkamp pashmina: This thing is HUGE and so soft and comfortable. I’ve used it as a pillow, a blanket, a shawl, and I’m sure half a dozen other purposes.
A book: Always! Also a notebook.
Away compressible travel cube: This genius invention is how I managed to make everything work. I’m never traveling without one again.
AYR Early Mornings tee: It was chilly on Saturday, so this was the perfect weight for walking around and having the top down on the Jeep.
Frame wide-legged pants: I got these a couple years ago (you can see them here in Los Angeles, and above) and as I’m newly obsessed with this silhouette this year they’ve been on repeat. They were super comfortable to travel with. Frame doesn’t have this style any longer, but these J. Crew ones are similar.
Aurate gold knot earrings: Any time I have something I need to look polished yet casual for, I pull out these Aurate earrings. They remind me of a pair my mother had that I always coveted. They are timeless, chic, and importantly not heavy—I can wear them every day. You can get 20% off at Aurate with FEWERANDBETTER20.
J. Crew linen sweater (similar): I love this sweater, which I wore on the train down over a…
Petit Bateau tee: Possibly my favorite long-sleeved tee on the market. Super-soft and comfortable and perfect for layering.
My Everlane mac: The easiest light spring jacket I own.
And I wore my go-to Belgians (which very much need some TLC…) and was perfectly comfortable walking miles!
