Blue and white forever
Three recent outfits
What can I say? I like what I like!
This was a bit of a strange week because we are still juggling no childcare/no summer camp/working/unpacking/exploring/figuring out the city/getting on a normal sleep schedule. Things are hectic but there is an end in sight! I’m off to New York this week and am looking forward to getting in some good work on the train and in the office. Here’s hoping things go smoothly! In the meantime, here’s what I wore last week.
At home/errands/library
Kule polo* | Sanctuary shorts* | Vibi Venezia slippers | March Hare watch (20% off with FEWERBETTER20)
I ran a bunch of errands, went to the library, and then went home to work on a seriously hot day (which is why I was wearing shorts). I don’t know why I haven’t been in a shorts mood this summer, but most of them have been by the wayside except this pair (and this one). I really love the stripes on this pair, which make them a little less preppy and a little cooler than my usual J. Crew chinos.
I am of course always wearing my March Hare watch—I went back upstairs to our apartment to get it because I left it by the shower! It’s an essential part of every outfit for me.
Old stomping grounds
Ann Mashburn dress (on sale! see the rest of my sale picks here) | Ann Mashburn sandals
On what was probably the hottest day I slipped into my coolest possible dress and hit up the blessed airconditioned sanctuary of Dumbarton Oaks. I worked here a million years ago and it’s been my favorite museum in DC for all of my life. So special to share with my family! I can never resist the mosaics in the Byzantine collection despite my pre-Columbian studies background. If you’re a Washingtonian, or visiting the city, definitely make a stop here for the jewel box of a museum (the Philip Johnson wing is what really got me into mid-century design) and the stunning gardens. (A note that you now have to book tickets in advance for the gardens, but the museum is free.)
Mersea shirt* | L’Agence white jeans* | Vibi Venezia slippers | March Hare watch (20% off with FEWERBETTER20)
I’m going to put down a rug or something in our room because I’d love to pictures these outfits with the proper shoes (or maybe I’ll just put another mirror in the hallway by the front door!) I love these slippers and while I initially bought them to wear around town, they’ve become my house shoes.
I’ve been trying to find my new Washington style (much more to come on this), but I have to admit I’m struggling. My life is vastly, wildly different than it was the last time I lived here and my sartorial leanings are as well. I felt pretty good about myself in this outfit. I love this new oversized shirt the team at Mersea kindly sent over. This is my first piece from them and I’m impressed—the fabric is light and airy without being unstructured. I’m a big fan of white jeans as I’ve said before and this pair gives a great casual vibe with the raw hem that I think makes them work really well. I also think the slimmer pant looks better with a loose top. I prefer the loose top/slim bottom silhouette more than any other, even though it’s emphatically unpopular at the moment! It doesn’t matter to me because that’s what I enjoy wearing.
And I think that’s what I need to remember! Wear what I want to wear and ignore everything else.
Have a great week, everyone!
