What I'm reading, wearing, shopping
We are heading into the most summery part of summer—high heats, evening thunderstorms, pervasive humidity!—and while I’m eager to shift over into sweater weather, that’s not going to be for a while. Over here we have a little bit more camp before a trip back to New York and hopefully some farther-flung exploration here in the mid-Atlantic region. Here’s what I’ve been up to…
Doing… Clipping back into a normal work routine, which has been great. I’ve also been racking up the miles driving to and from camp dropoff (next summer I need to explore other options) and getting used to the future school commute. I must say I already miss the bus system in New York! I have never loved a carpool line so this has been an interesting shock to the system.
At least I’ve had time to listen to podcasts (a new-to-me experience!) and I’m planning to start listening to audiobooks. Thankfully the group over at Rec League have some great opinions on books that are better in audiobook form… I’m taking notes.
Buying… In case you missed it, KULE is closing their doors.
I have been obsessed with the brand since amy stone first posted about them years ago and I love and wear so many pieces. I seriously shopped the goodbye sale, and you can still find pieces at Le Weekend and Shopbop. O BOY, the KULE Journal, you will be missed! (If you only can snag one piece, this is a piece I wear on constant repeat.)
Wearing and Loving… Besides my favorite KULE pieces, I’ve been leaning heavily into pants and long skirts. For some reason this has not been the summer of shorts for me despite the heat. I am loving this new Ann Mashburn patchwork skirt, which I most recently wore for coffee with our neighbors.
Wishlisting… Despite settling in for the summer long haul, I do have a couple items on my pre-fall wishlist. In DC, we do actually have a pre-fall when it’s after Labor Day but still hot. I’m eyeing some light pants to have in my arsenal for all the upcoming back-to-school events.
Reading… I’ve been going back and forth between the Mapp and Lucia books by EF Benson, Justine by Lawrence Durrell, and My Dream of You by Nuala O’Faolain.
Cooking… Lots of chicken and fish! The Trader Joe’s lemon spatchcock chicken is an easy meal to throw together with hasselback potatoes—simple, elegant, and delicious. There are never any leftovers!
Listening to… My Summer 2024 playlist is still excellent!
Watching… Not much! We’ll get back to Jeeves & Wooster soon. By the end of a long day I don’t want to deal with anything heavy or too complex.
What’s next… Finishing our unpacking, starting house hunting, and all the back to school shopping!
And next week… I’m getting back to Fridays for paid subscribers with a what I love/what I miss list. For everyone, how to get ready for back to school for each member of the family (specifically style!), and a Wednesday wild card. Please drop a line with what you’d like to see!
You can follow me… here on Instagram, here on Rec League, and here on ShopMy (sign up for your own shopper account here and creator account here)!

House hunting, this is exciting!!! But not more exciting than the patchwork skirt.
