Three Recent Outfits
I've finally been wearing something other than the same sweater and jeans on repeat!
I’ve long been fascinated by the why of it all: why we choose our clothing, why we wear the outfits we do, whether we follow trends or eschew them. In this column, I share three favorite outfits from the previous week, what I wore, and why I chose them. I hope you find this process as interesting as I do! It’s been a while since I’ve shared my outfits, so I wanted to start this column back up as I’ve been wearing more than just this sweater/these jeans on repeat.
A warm day!
Ann Mashburn popover* | Frank & Eileen jeans* | Viani Milano slippers*
We finally had a really nice warm day and I finally got to wear this incredible Ann Mashburn popover the brand kindly sent me. I had been eyeing it covetously and unfortunately, as soon as it arrived, it was freezing. I pulled it out even though we were just hanging out around the house and in the backyard because I had been dying to wear it. Popovers are my favorite silhouette, the perfect blend of polished and casual, and Ann Mashburn’s are truly superb. The little things that make up clothing really matter, and Ann Mashburn nails them each time: button placement, the actual buttons, and, crucially, French seams. This is a hill I will die on (like my friend
) and buying a shirt with French seams is worth any additional cost. It fits better, drapes better, and the quality is visibly better.I’m always more drawn to handmade pieces—beyond the increase in quality, I like pieces that tell a story. These Viani Milano slippers are truly great. I love that each slipper is handmade: you can tell the love and care that’s put into every stitch. I wear these around the house all day, every day, and I am seriously debating a new pair for my office.
City day
Ann Mashburn cardigan* | Sold Out NYC tee* | Ann Mashburn jeans | March Hare watch* | House of Zalo slippers (vintage, from my mother)
It was a warm-ish day, so I wanted to wear something a bit lighter: this cardigan fits the bill in every sense. I love how polished it is and how nicely the buttons contrast with the black knit. These jeans have been a favorite for warmer weather because I love the wash and the slight flare. And these shoes are so special—they belonged to my mother and I love to feel her with me.
