Three Recent Outfits
What I've been wearing lately
I’ve been inspired by a lot of friends here on the platform while getting dressed… here’s what I’ve been wearing, who has been inspiring me, and why I’m wearing it.
Coffee with a friend
Wearing… Guest in Residence cardigan | Petit Bateau white tee | L’Agence white jeans | Faherty braided belt | Ann Mashburn sandals | vintage J. McLaughlin clutch (similar) | Celisse nails
Inspired by… Natalia Quintero Ochoa with the monochrome + clutch look, Fanny Adams with the Petit Bateau tee, Lindsay Sword with the Guest in Residence sweater + pop of red, Sogole Kane with the brown accessories.
Why I’m wearing this… I love an all-white look in the summer—nothing seems more carefree and elegant than literally saying “to hell with it” and wearing all white, especially if you’re going for coffee and there is the possibility of a spill at any minute! I’ve always loved pairing brown with white and Sogole Kane reminded me in a recent post how good brown is in the summer.
There’s no one on this platform who loves Petit Bateau tees as much as Fanny Adams and I do, and not only did I recently stock up on our European adventure this spring, I also found a huge cache of my older tees when cleaning out the basement—a major WIN for my summer wardrobe. Stay tuned for more!
I’m a huge fan of Natalia Quintero Ochoa’s style always but my favorite look she does so well is monochrome white + a great clutch, so this is an homage to her :) Didn’t pull it off as well, obviously, but the effort was there and I loved this outfit.
Wearing… Ann Mashburn popover dress | Ann Mashburn sandals | March Hare watch (20% off with FEWERBETTER20) | Maison de Sabre airtag charm
Inspired by… Muffy Aldrich with the Liberty print!
Why I’m wearing this… I’ve worn this exact outfit three times in the past week because it is SO. GOOD. There is nothing better than a popover to me and in the summer there is nothing better than a popover DRESS. This dress is perfection because it’s so easy yet makes a great statement—and the hem is adjustable, you can let it out up to three inches so it suits any height. Any time I wear Liberty I always think of my friend Muffy Aldrich whose love for the prints is well-known. This is a great dress!
At home, packing
Wearing… my mother’s old Bermuda polo (similar) | Nelle Atelier trousers (15% off with FEWERANDBETTER15) | March Hare watch (20% off with FEWERBETTER20)
Inspired by… Fanny Adams again with the red and brown (in this case Nantucket red + brown), and Lindsay Sword with the drawstring trousers! (And Sogole Kane for the Bermuda reference.)
Why I’m wearing this… We are in the throes of packing and part of that means going down to the basement, getting stuff out, getting covered in cobwebs, rinse and repeat. By the end of three or four hours of that I’m eager to climb into the literal coziest clothes I have that aren’t pajamas… these are it. This polo shirt is almost thirty years old; my mother bought it at Smith’s (does this store even exist any more??) during one of our family trips. I was inspired to pair it with these pants even though I feel like Neopolitan ice cream because of Fanny Adams’s recent post on pairing red and brown together. While I can’t go with the bright red + brown combination due to a long-running boarding school rivalry, this felt like a nice, soft nod to a great color combination without betraying my team.
I don’t have a lot of drawstring pants but the two pairs I do are uber-comfortable linen/cotton blends; these are last year’s version from Nelle Atelier and I hope they bring them back again!
Who are your favorite Substackers to emulate? Please share—I had such fun writing and dressing for this post!
