What I'm Missing from My Fall Wardrobe
Everything I'm planning to wear this fall... as soon as I find it
It’s not an exaggeration to say that my wardrobe waits all year for fall. My vast collection of sweaters (it’s not hoarding if they’re vintage!) comes into their own, and I count the days until I can pull out my Barbours again. Of all my seasonal clothing, my fall collection is the closest to perfection, but there are still a few pieces I’m missing.
I take the curation of my wardrobe extremely seriously. Your attire is how you present yourself to the world: it is the ultimate way to express who you are. It’s an art form, and one that anyone can master. Because I know what I love in my wardrobe, I also know what I’m missing.
Below, I’m detailing what’s missing from my fall wardrobe, what I’m eyeing, and how I’d incorporate new pieces into my existing closet.
A Shetland sweater
There is nothing better than a Shetland sweater, and the one I have (from Ann Mashburn about twelve years ago) has served me incredibly well. Unfortunately, I tore part of the arm open last fall and it’s started to unravel. While I can always bring it to my trusty reweaver to have it fixed, it’s probably time for a new one. My current Shetland sweater is quite a slim cut, so I’m particularly looking for a looser fit this year. Bosie, The Andover Shop, and J. Press have my favorite Shetlands. (Permanent Style has a great breakdown of Shetland sweaters here.)
How I’d wear it: with jeans, an oxford, and bluchers for a back-to-campus look; with a grey flannel pleat-front skirt and Belgians for a work meeting; with a turtleneck, grey flannel trousers, and velvet slippers for a date night in the city.
