A Spring Wishlist
What I'm eyeing this spring
To my enormous surprise, I actually did not shop in Paris (besides a necessary trip to Citypharma for sunscreen, the most brilliant migraine stick, and nice soap to bring home, plus two boys size 14 striped tees from Monoprix). I’ll cover this in more depth but despite visits to Rubirosa’s and Le Bon Marché, plus staying in the Place Vendôme with its brilliant window displays, nothing really called out to me. Maybe that’s growth, maybe that’s the stage of life I’m in, but I’m saddened that Paris felt overdone for me compared to the way it was the last time I was there. This might be because I just see Parisian shopping content all the time here, or I was looking in the wrong places (no time for the flea markets or vintage shops), but I was disappointed.
That being said, I do have my own running spring wishlist that feels more “me”—and perhaps that’s a good thing. I loved everything I wore in Europe1 and while I wished I could have brought one other shirt and one other pair of “fun” pants, those are the only thing I missed. It was a great, tight edit that made me infinitely happy. I’m approaching my spring wardrobe the same way. Here’s what’s on my wishlist!
Sweatshirt + shorts: My peak spring/early summer outfit is the sweatshirt/shorts combination (or sweater and shorts). Stripes are an absolute MUST. For shorts, I always go with J. Crew, and I always get them early—they’re included in their spring fling sale right now at 40% off, so I can buy two pairs without feeling guilty. On the sweatshirt front, this is is the year I get this AYR Early Mornings tee, which I’ve been eyeing for ages. (Jennifer Shoop has convinced me!)
Loafers: I just got a great tip from some family friends about the best cobbler in Manhattan for Belgians, so I’m excited to turn my beat-up brown pair in for a facelift. I’m also on the hunt for a couple other pre-loved pairs—I can’t really justify the price or the weeks-long wait time at the moment for a brand new pair when this cobbler literally works magic on the most worn-in shoes. That being said, I need a replacement pair when mine are in the shop and I’m debating these.
Shirtdress: I’m a sucker for a good shirtdress (see here and here), so this one and this one are obviously on my list.
Non-denim pants: I find myself erring towards the formal at this stage of my life, so adding a few new pairs of non-denim pants into my rotation would be a welcome change! I haven’t found a good pair of chinos (other than these) that are made of good fabric, fit well, don’t have an elastic waist, and so on. I have high hopes for this pair from Ann Mashburn.
Collared shirts: Again, I find myself going with clothes that the vast majority of the population has discarded as “uncomfortable,” a collared shirt chief among them. The population is wrong: if you get the right fit and fabric they are the most comfortable things in the world. I wrote a detailed post on my favorites here. In addition to Ann Mashburn and With Nothing Underneath, I’m eager to try this shirt from AYR and I loved this linen shirt from J. Crew when I nabbed it a few years ago—a version in white is necessary.
What’s on your spring wishlist?
I’ve shared my London outfits here and will share the rest of my trip next week!

I will be very interested to see what you think about those chinos. 😁💕
