Greetings from SFO! I’m writing this at our gate while we wait for our flight. I’ve loved spending three weeks in California and I’ll write much more to come—we traveling up the coast, back down a bit, and had an incredible time. I think my best outfits were the ones that I wore in San Francisco. I hadn’t been back in many years (I think a decade), so it was a great way to rediscover such an incredible city. This was an unexpected stop for us, and we spent the July 4th weekend, then an extra bonus day, in the city. We seized this very lucky opportunity with both hands and had a truly incredible time. (And we ate some particularly great food, too!)
Here’s what I wore!
Exploring the city (full outfit links here)
La Ligne Ben sweater | Abby Alley sling bag | Faherty belt | Aurate gold knot earrings | Cole Haan clubmasters (similar) | Frank & Eileen jeans | Ann Mashburn sandals
You’ll see this sweater a few times because it was chilly here the whole trip and I (astonishingly!) did not pack enough sweaters.
A text conversation with a friend who obviously knows me very well
I absolutely loved San Francisco and I’m so glad we were able to visit for a few days. It was great to hop on the cable car (#touristwithacablecarobsessedchild) and go around the city, but we also did a LOT of walking. My Ann Mashburn sandals (on sale right now!) were great and I easily clocked 10,000 steps in them without any blisters.
I will say that my Abby Alley sling bag was the MVP of the trip. It was so great to be in a proper walkable city and not have to worry about lugging everything including the kitchen sink with us on our walks around the city. I used this bag for literally everything, including hiking Lands’ End and walking around Golden Gate Park (as you’ll see below).
A day of hiking (full outfit linked here)
La Ligne Marina sweater | Frank & Eileen jeans | Abby Alley sling bag | Julia Amory pareo | Cole Haan clubmasters (similar) | Bensimon tennis shoes (similar)
As mentioned above, this bag was incredible for all aspects of the trip! For a very chilly day hiking Lands’ End and wandering around Golden Gate Park, my heavier La Ligne sweater was so good. I used my Julia Amory pareo as a scarf multiple times during the three weeks we were away—truly such a versatile piece!
Dinner out (full outfit linked here)
La Ligne Ben sweater | Julia Amory pareo | Frame Anchor Pants | Margaux wrap sandals | Abby Alley sling bag | Faherty belt | Aurate gold knot earrings | Cole Haan clubmasters (similar) | March Hare watch
We had the best food in California—I can’t even begin to express how incredible everything was. We found a great Mexican place in North Beach, where we went twice. The service was great, the food was amazing, and the neighborhood was bustling. Not usually our scene, but when in San Francisco! I loved these Frame Anchor Pants—the raw hem and patch pockets felt like a nice nautical nod to a very cool neighborhood and city. Again, I packed limited sweaters (#carryononly), so most of my pieces were reused multiple times. This La Ligne sweater was such a great piece to pack for San Francisco and LA (seen in the below post). I love how different it looks when paired with jeans, the pants above, and white jeans. I wore my Margaux wrap sandals with this outfit for a festive touch, and they were such a great choice for walking down and up San Francisco’s famous hills.
Top Drawer: Iconic
Lunch with a dear friend at a place I’ve always wanted to visit: as iconic as it’s always seemed (and the food was great, too!)
Formal-ish dinner (full outfit linked here)
With Nothing Underneath Weekend shirt | The Malabar Collective picnic pants | Belgian Shoes
It was fun to go out for a more formal-ish (though still child-friendly) dinner, so I wore these pants from The Malabar Collective for a fun look! They are extremely comfortable and they have deep pockets, crucial for any piece of clothing. I paired these with my new favorite shirt from With Nothing Underneath. I’ve extolled their virtues before, but really, any company that takes the care and attention they do (French seams!) is worth supporting. The navy seersucker gives a neutral color such an interesting texture, plus it is lightweight enough for even very hot summer days.
Airport outfit (full outfit linked here)
Monos suitcase | Bose Open Earbuds | La Ligne Marina sweater | With Nothing Underneath Weekend shirt | Cuyana bag | Frank & Eileen jeans | Abby Alley sling bag J. McLaughlin cashmere wrap | Cole Haan clubmasters (similar) | Belgian Shoes
What I’m wearing as I type this! I always try to actually dress when I travel, and these jeans are extremely comfortable, even on a plane. I’m wearing the same With Nothing Underneath shirt and my Belgians. And here’s the proof that I really do travel with only a carryon (and an extremely overstuffed personal item 😂) To be fair, I always seem to end up carrying things for the other members of my family… Anyway, multiple hours into our airport visit, I have a few things to note: 1) SFO is my favorite airport; 2) padded insoles really are the key to getting your steps in during your travels, 3) This Cuyana bag is the Mary Poppins carpetbag of leather bags.
I’m so glad you had a wonderful time in my native city of San Francisco. I hope you went to The Presidio at the north end of town; besides being very historic it is gorgeous. I walk my golden retriever there every morning at 6:00. Also hoping you went over the GG bridge to the Marin Headlands; absolutely spectacular. Funny that you ate Mexican food in North Beach as it is the Italian part of town; the hole in the wall places serve the best food. It is always chilly (and usually overcast and foggy) until mid-late afternoon in the summer. For the best weather, come back in October.
Yes to the Cuyana bag Mary Poppins reference. It truly is!
