It has been difficult carrying on with life and work with so many awful things happening in the world. But we must. There is no shame in posting about something that feels frivolous. We all need an escape.
January is also a blue month in general so all of these events are compounded by that.
I’m glad you’re on the mend and sorry to hear you were so awfully sick. This was the first holiday season our family emerged unscathed.
I mean the heirloom Kelly made everything better!! But yes, this was a doozy. Glad to be feeling better and I’m definitely leaning into the blue mood this month.
Thank you for sharing! January is often a difficult month as it follows the highs of the holidays with the added weight [ha!] of new year resolutions, add in an illness and no wonder the blahs set in. As someone who struggles with a chronic illness, I applaud the steps you are taking to manage your recovery and mood. Still, might I suggest adding a cup of tea to your day? The English truly are onto something as tea seems to help most anything. As for your next show, have you tried Vera, Line of Duty, or Shetland [my Anglophilia is apparent]?
I drink so much tea it’s about 1/2 of my bloodstream; I do enjoy the ritual of making loose leaf tea and that’s definitely a mood-booster. I haven’t tried any of those three, but I really look forward to testing them out! Hope you are well and having a good start to 2025 xx
aw thank you for including my piece! i really love your edit for every day is all there is, that resonates DEEPLY with me as i’m also having a lethargic start to 2025 💛
Aww I'm so glad you saw this!! Truly LOVE your writing and it's such a joy to sit down with a new essay from you. I sent the ins/outs list you did with Emily to just about everyone I know, it's so good!
Enjoy the writing. Agree, with you on rituals as a means of bringing order to a disordered world. I think Joseph Campbell felt the same as well.
Interesting comparison!
