A week of espadrilles!
The last two days have been H O T, but otherwise it’s actually been a fairly pleasant midsummer here in Washington! I’ve been leaning into pants and/or long sleeves for a number of reasons, but mainly because it’s FREEZING inside always, and despite my best intentions I have been spending a lot of time in the car. I was very committed to getting into more of a walking routine, i.e. walking to the grocery store, walking to get coffee, but I’m still weaning myself off the luxury of driving. It “helps” that we live in an area of DC that actually has parking garages for the grocery stores… but in any case I’m going to try to walk a little more each day. I am proud of hitting my step goal every day!
It should not be a surprise to you that I only own comfortable yet good-looking shoes—I don’t feel these are mutually exclusive things! One of my favorite pairs of summer shoes, besides these sandals, are simple espadrilles. They go with everything, are comfortable to walk in, and are easy to step into and go. I’ve been dying for a new pair of Soludos espadrilles for the summer, and since it’s the summer of blue and white, I was so pleased when the brand sent me a new pair for our new city! Just a reminder that you can get 20% off when you use FEWERANDBETTER20 :) Here’s what I’ve been wearing…
Coffee with not an influencer!
I already wrote about how much I loved getting this friendship offline and into IRL but it bears repeating :) We went to one of my old-and-new-again haunts and I got my usual lavender iced latte. I love living life on the edge in white jeans with a full iced coffee! (I jest.) I’m wearing a very old Ann Mashburn linen top which I bought during their sale in July 2015 (!!!) and still obviously wear to this day. I love snagging great pieces on sale and wearing them for years to come… your not-so-subtle hint that the Mashburn sale is still ongoing!
Ann Mashburn linen top | L’Agence jeans | Soludos espadrilles (20% off with FEWERANDBETTER20) | March Hare watch (20% off with FEWERBETTER20)
Petit Bateau tee (similar) | Faherty belt | L’Agence jeans | Soludos espadrilles (20% off with FEWERANDBETTER20) | March Hare watch (20% off with FEWERBETTER20)
This post’s theme could actually be white jeans + espadrilles because that’s pretty much what I’ve been wearing… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This is just a great and simple outfit that didn’t require a lot of forethought and still looks good.
Baltimore Museum of Art

We revisited some old haunts in Baltimore/Baltimore County over the weekend and I could not have been more thrilled… it was great to see the Baltimore Museum of Art again. Did you know that John Waters donated his art collection to the museum? A true Bmore hero. Love how he just wanted the bathrooms dedicated to him 😂 (he also got a rotunda too). I’m obsessed with him. A few quotes from the above-linked article that I constantly reference…
“I’ve always said you have to know good taste to have good bad taste.”
Mr. Waters’s role as patron does include a signature tongue-in-cheek move. A rotunda will be named after him, in classic donor-rewarding style, complete with a plaque, but so will two bathrooms.
“That was my first demand,” Mr. Waters said. “They thought I was kidding.”
His gift features 13 works by Karin Sander, including “Gebrauchsbild” (2010), a blank white canvas that the artist instructed her dealer to leave outside “until it got mold all over it,” Mr. Waters said.
“I had to get it inspected,” he added. “I brought it into my house and it could technically infect you, kill you, and vanish and be worth nothing. That’s the perfect piece of contemporary art.”
Go visit!
We also stopped by Stone Mill, where I went literally every week for years in boarding school and still think about on a routine basis. A relief to return and know it’s just as good—and better!—than it was back then.
I also love this Susan Shaw medallion, which brings some much-needed elegance to a simple jeans-and-tee outfit. I’m trying to make things a little more considered over here and this handmade piece is such a fun way to do this!

The Dog Days of Summer
We’re approaching the dog days of summer—the lazy, indulgent, everyone’s-on-vacation feeling that we get when August rolls around. For those of us who aren’t on vacation, here’s a brief guide to how to fully embrace those hot summer days when you’re in the city.
Ten Things I Own and Love from the Ann Mashburn Sale
The biannual Ann Mashburn sale is always the sale that tempts me more than any other. It begins at 30% off, then goes down to 50% off with more items added, then finally 60% off. (When items are 60% off, they are final sale, but prior to that they are returnable!) I always save my July shopping budget for the summer sale because it is always so GOOD. Ev…
